Senior Stormy Zyzyk from Mount Vernon High School in Alexandria, Virginia had a goal fulfilled on November 14, 2014 when she signed her National Letter of Intent with Towson University to play softball. Stormy first walked on the campus of Towson 3 years ago during the summer. She had just completed her freshman year of high school and recently had been awarded 1st Team All District – National District, in softball. Her travel coach, Karen Walker, gave her a present. softball camp at Towson as a reward

for her accomplishment! She did not know then how that one gift would change her life and her decisions from that point on. She attended the camp and worked with Coach Costello and Coach Streets and the Tigers’ softball team.  She knew then, she wanted to attend Towson and play softball for them.  After numerous visits to other schools and various camps, Towson remained her number one choice.  Following her Junior Day visit at Towson, she looked at her mom and simply said, “I’m home.”  Her parents had two rules about looking at schools to attend to play softball at the next level, she had to love the school without softball and it needed to provide her intended major.  Check!  Towson had it all. Towson had coaches she wanted to play for and learn from plus having Exercise Science as a major.  She was in business, now to do the work to get there.

Her dream began when she first started playing T-ball when she was only 5 years old.  Soon, she started to think about playing the sport at higher levels.  She has played for the Mount Vernon Magic Travel Softball Program since she was 8 years old and now plays on the 18U Magic Elite Team coached by Karen Walker and Juan Gonzales.  Stormy has put in countless hours improving her softball skills and knowledge. With some great coaches and mentors, she has prospered at the sport she loves.  Stormy would like to personally thank Coaches Karen Walker, Keith Tasaka, Juan Gonzales, Dan Coast, Luke Sable, Randy Cole, and Terri Pearson for always believing in her and making her the softball player she is today.

Stormy has been fortunate in being recognized by the softball coaches and softball community for the following honors. Selected 1st Team All-State in 2014 for both the Virginia High School League and the Virginia High School Coaches Association … 2013 VHSCA Honorable Mention All-State. 2013 and 2014 Washington Post All-Met Honorable Mention. 3 year VHSL 1st Team All-Conference/ District ..2013 VHSL National District Player of the Year.2 year VHSL 1st Team All- Region. She is the lead-off hitter, centerfielder and Team Captain thru her junior year. She leads Coach Dan Coast’s Mount Vernon Majors with a career batting average of.431, an on-base-percentage of .606, and a .605 slugging average going into her final season in 2015. She also hit .474 and a slugging average of .710 as a junior in 2014.  She knows it will be a tough road ahead for her senior softball season as well as playing for the Towson Softball program. With her common answer to what she will do, she always comes back with “work harder and let her actions and play on the field speak for themselves”.

Stormy is the daughter of Thomas and Patricia ‘Tric’ Zyzyk and sister to Zachery and Charlie.  She is also the maternal granddaughter of Doris Priest of Lake Waccamaw, NC.

Congratulations to Stormy on advancing your academic and athletic careers at the next level.  All of us at DigitalSports wish you luck!
